Who we are
Gloom is Okay are a three-piece alternative metal band from Glasgow, Scotland.
We make music that sits somewhere between heavy and vulnerable; distorted guitars, electronics, melody and atmosphere, with a tendency to make things stranger than they probably need to be.
Our songs explore identity, anxiety, repetition and the uncomfortable parts of being human, moving between quiet introspection and considerably less quiet catharsis.
Happy/sad music for happy/sad people.
Our Sound
Heavy without always needing to be loud.
Gloom is Okay blends distorted guitars, electronics, synths and melodic vocals with the rhythmic and progressive elements of heavier music.
Our songs are built around contrast. Quiet against chaos, simplicity against strange rhythms, and melody against noise. We like atmosphere, unexpected turns and letting a song go wherever it needs to go.
If it feels good, sounds weird and hits hard enough, it probably belongs.
Why ‘Gloom is okay’?
The name comes from the idea that darker feelings do not always need to be hidden or fixed. Sometimes they just need somewhere to exist.
Our music explores the messier parts of being human. Identity, self worth, anxiety, detachment and the thoughts we tend to keep to ourselves all find their way in.
Gloom is not the absence of hope. Sometimes gloom is okay.
The journey so far
Gloom is Okay started as a place to make music without worrying too much about where it was supposed to fit.
Our debut EP introduced the band and gave us the foundations of our sound. Since then, we have spent the last few years writing, experimenting and figuring out exactly what we want Gloom is Okay to be.
That process became Nothing Human, our first full length album. With new music now beginning to make its way into the world, this feels less like starting again and more like everything finally coming together.
We are still figuring it out. That is probably the point.
Nothing Human
Our upcoming album, Nothing Human, explores identity, self worth, detachment, repetition and the complicated ways we understand ourselves and each other.
Across the album, heavy guitars, electronics, melody and quieter moments pull in different directions, with each song approaching those ideas from somewhere new.
This is the clearest picture of Gloom is Okay so far. Not a reinvention, but a better understanding of what we want this band to be.
